Lighting design for MIZAR, Badoere Di Morgano, Italy We, as men living in a civilized world and inside a vast cityscape that is filled with uncountable number of artificial light that each produce their own amounts intensity and color, accept and adopt to this chaotic parade of artificiality everyday. Still, in a larger scale, we are governed by the schedule of the nature even inside of the largest metropolitan environment: routinely, we get up when the sun comes up, we go to bed when it becomes dark. We are living between the two worlds: the world of natural lights and the world of artificial lights that take turn and overlap with each other continually. As we live through the day, we constantly switch between the natural lights and the artificial lights. For example, we get up in the morning under the morning sun, and go to the bathroom, turn on the light is completely different from the morning light from minutes ago. We get out to the house to the daylight, and then to the underground subway station which is, again, a completely artificial light environment that is different from the daylight. When the sun is about to come down, the color of the sky changes dramatically from the color of the sky during the day and during the morning. At the sunset, the contrast between the natural and the artificial lights become very apparent. Various hues of lights of the city turn on and make a contrast with the sunset. As we make this numerous environmental changes throughout the day, we have grown to be customized and numb to the changes of our environment. Are we giving up the beauty of the nature that are still available to us in our daily lives in the cityscape? Hover over thumbnails to enlarge images. |

Facade Architecitre for LOUIS VUITTON, Paris, France
Supervised by Clino T. Castelli, Milan, Italy Topiade is a lay-over facade structure designed to enable a renewal of an existing retail store building without major reconstructions. The concept of Topiade was created by identifying central attributes of the famous French fashion brand, Louis Vuitton : luxury, French, and craftsmanship. The designs that we produced were of this nature and could be thought of as conduits to the outside and the inside. Simply the goal was to create a LV building "alive" and to make it so that people are able to experience this "aliveness" each day that they own and use a LV product. A comprehensive research was carried out on the design, brand perception, brand identity, global marketing & sales, plus competitor strategy before the generation of the concept which suggest a slight shift in the current art direction of Louis Vuitton. 4 independent concepts with a total of 12 permutations of these concepts was investigated. Each of these designs addressed the needs of expanding the idea of LV facade design, the use of topiary art as well as pushing further with the idea of modular facade systems applicable to Louis Vuitton. Topiade brings to the facade of a building a vertical version of the luxurious and traditional french garden that redefine Louis Vuitton's virtue. Several variants are proposed within the concept. Real topiary blocks are arranged on the facade, behind them is a net of water / nutrient feeding system. every so often, a real gardner is to be dispatched and maintain the topiary plants while creating an interesting scene around the building. Interactive architecture & system design for CINECITTA, Rome, Italy Simply: a nationwide, internet connected system of games that can be played on cell phones, kiosks, and fully interactive public devices. A user dials a number for the Cinecitta system on the side of a kiosk and answers trivia questions for points. A user can address or call a movie wall, images projected on the side of a building in real-time to answer movie questions for points. The "match sticks" game allow users to transfer famous movie images between rotating sticks to gather points transferred to their cell phones. Technically plausible and easy to maintain the devices are best for major city centers and shopping areas. The final portion of the Cinecitta project was that of "the pivot point", a self contained transportable location where people come to redeem points for the games that they have won throughout Italy. Dial the number of the pivot point where you are standing, select how much you want to transfer, and then once confirmed by the pivot point employee, a user can get merchandise, food, etc. The pivot point can also project images onto buildings and nearby walls or onto itself as a movable movie / media projection system.
